City Dump Yard

The City Yard is available to all residents of the city for disposal of nonhazardous materials in accordance with city ordinances.

Dump Permits

Each resident is required to obtain a dump permit. Permits are available at the City Yard, for a fee of $25 and are sold bi-annually, payable by cash, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card. (3% convenience charge applied to all credit cards) The Dump Permits are valid January 1st through Jun 30th and July 1st through December 31st each year. You must live within the city limits to obtain a permit. Identification will be required to prove residency (current driver’s license). If you live elsewhere, but own property in Hobart, you are not eligible for a permit. Dump permits must be shown each time you use the city yard and residents may be required to present photo id upon request. It is against city ordinance to let anyone use your permit, or for you to use your permit to haul trash for someone else.

The city does not collect tires from residents. Tires must be brought in for drop-off at the city yard. The Lake County Solid Waste District provides a dumpster in our yard for the disposal of tires. *There is a limit of 4 tires per household per month.  Also, tires must not be on the rim.

Starting January 1, 2011, the City of Hobart, in response to new provisions in Indiana Code 13-20.5-10-1, will no longer collect electronic devices in regular household trash.

Electronic devices will still be accepted for free drop-off at the City Dump Yard. Electronics can be brought to 1840 East State Road 130, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

If City crews are dispatched to collect electronics there will be a $10.00 special pick-up charge per item collected.
