September 1 - 30, 2025 - Hiring General & Lateral Applicants
The Hobart Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full-time police officers and reserve officers beginning September 1, 2025. Eligible candidates must be in good physical condition, a high school graduate, and at least 20 years of age but less than 40 years of age at time of appointment. If candidate is 40 years of age or older, the candidate must be a current member of the Indiana Municipal Police & Firefighters Pension Fund. General Applicants (No Academy Certification)
Written testing (October 4, 2025 @ 8AM) - Study guide provided through application software after received.
Physical agility testing (October 4, 2025 - Immediately Following Written Test) - Academy Exit Standards link below.
Panel Interview (October 4, 2025 - Following Agility Test)
- Lateral Applicants with a POST certified academy certification and 1 year or more Full time Law Enforcement will move directly to panel interview held on October 4th.
Admin Interview (Scheduled Week of October 6, 2025)
Background Investigation
Pass Medical and Psychological Exam (For applicants who are not in 1977 PERF)
Acceptance into 1977 INPRS PERF Pension Fund
Requirements:
Must be at least 20 years of age to apply and 21 years of age on date of appointment
Under the age of 40 unless currently enrolled in Indiana 1977 PERF
High school diploma
No felony or Domestic Violence convictions
Valid Driver’s License
Benefits:
Starting salary $57,750 (2025) $58,905 (2026)
Salary after 1 year for general applicants $72,161 (2025) $73,604 (2026)
Salary after FTO for Lateral Applicants $72,161 (2025) $73,604 (2026)
Longevity pay up to $4,750/yr.
Certified Retirement Rate: $80,533 (2025) $84,471 (2026)
